Teaching about Change

STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
- Explain concept of change over time to younger students.
- Develop communication and teaching skills.
- Evaluate their teaching experience.

GUIDING QUESTION: How can we teach others about change over time?

MATERIALS:
- SECRETS of our Forest/Shrub-Steppe Home lesson plan (Lesson 8: Time = Change)
- Lesson materials noted in SECRETS of our Forest/Shrub-Steppe Home lesson (Lesson 8: Time = Change)

CLASS ACTIVITIES:
Day 1: Organize
1. Lead your students through the lesson activities in the SECRETS lesson Time = Change. Point out specific things to be conscious about when teaching.
2. Hand out lesson plan to students. (You may also do this the day before and have students read the lesson plan for homework.)

Day 2: Share
1. Your students teach the lessons to a classroom of younger students.
2. In a class discussion or as a writing assignment for homework, students should assess the entire teaching experience. What was most fulfilling? What was most challenging? What activities worked best? How could other activities be improved? What suggestions does your class have for future high school students who are teaching the program next year?
