HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Cycles of Learning
Cycles of Learning is a 16-week ecology curriculum for high school students. Units focus on the same core ecological concepts that are the basis for the SECRETS upper-elementary science programs. Students gain an enhanced understanding of their local ecosystem by completing inquiry-based projects. A key emphasis of Cycles of Learning is sharing knowledge, and this course gives high school students the opportunity to gain teaching experience by routinely visiting elementary school classrooms to teach interactive ecology lessons.

Complete lesson plans and a detailed curriculum background are available on our website. High school science teachers interested in offering this unique ecology elective course should contact the Gorge Ecology Institute for additional support.

Independent Study Program

Students with a personal interest in developing an in-depth understanding of local ecosystems or teaching skills are welcome to attend the Volunteer Training Series and serve as instructors in the elementary classrooms. Special arrangement with the high-school administration and parental permission is required.
