Summer Camp in 2008 was a hit! Stay tuned for summertime opportunities coming up in 2009.

2008 Programs:

Discovery Day Camp: Exploring Nature
Third- and fourth-grade students spent a week hiking around the Discovery Center’s lands, exploring pond ecosystems, learning about the geology of the area, and creating art from nature!  Gorge Ecology Institute naturalists shared their knowledge about local shrub-steppe ecosystem. Students had the opportunity to observe the diverse plants and wildlife of the amazing Columbia River Gorge while participating in hands-on activities and team-building initiatives.

Skamania County Forest Explorers Camp
Skamania County youth (ages 10 to 14 ) participated in this weeklong Forest Explorers Overnight Camp at the Mt. Adams Center in Trout Lake.  Camp focused on forest ecology, outdoor recreation, forest stewardship and leadership development.

Wilderness Ecology Backpacking Trip
High school students joined CGEI AmeriCorps staff member Deborah Castorina for an adventure in backcountry cooking, teamwork, Leave No Trace principles and map and compass skills while hiking and exploring the Columbia Gorge.  They even conducted ecological stewardship and research activities!
