
BIRDING THE COLUMBIA
RIVER GORGE
The
Columbia River is a habitat unto its own, offering a wide variety of
species. Birds of prey float in the thermal drafts over rocky cliffs.
Geese, ducks, and herons enjoy the open waters. Songbirds of all kinds
announce their cheer throughout the meadowlands, forests, and
shrub-steppe prairies. Migrating birds return every spring to conclude
journeys from Mexico, Central America, and beyond.
The Columbia Gorge Ecology Institute is supportive
of efforts by our Gorge-area birding groups to identify, count, and
conduct research on behalf of our winged friends. You are encourage to
report your first sightings of the season to Stuart at 509-493-3363 or
johnstonstuartf@hotmail.com.

We have a new bird species in the
Columbia River Gorge!
Eurasian-collared Doves were first observed in the Gorge at
Dallesport, so we now have 302 species
listed in the National Scenic Area Bird List! |
