THERE ARE MANY WAYS FOR YOU TO GET INVOLVED!

Teach weekly classroom lessons. Serve as a mentor for a high-needs student. Explore field trip sites with a group of stewards-in-training. Contribute artwork for publications. Lead a weekend hike. Help a classroom plan a wild-bird habitat in their school yard. Attend a family showcase event. Edit the quarterly newsletter. Sew costumes. Participate in a Volunteer Training Series...

SECRETS VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTORS
Our volunteer classroom instructors and field naturalists from the community serve alongside full-time AmeriCorps members as mentors and have a big impact on the students they teach. Since 1999, we have trained more than 106 community volunteers to teach the SECRETS program in the classroom and out in the field.

Volunteers also have a big impact on helping the program reach more students. For each volunteer teaching in the classroom, Institute staff can reach additional students and spend the time developing new programs. We are committed to providing the training and opportunities for local residents who are eager to learn about the local forests and high desert to volunteer as science instructors and help with ecological restoration projects.

VOLUNTEERS
A plethora of volunteer opportunities awaits for you and your families, friends, or co-workers  to participate in.  We currently need volunteer help with the following projects:

*        Costume making

*        Props and material preparation

*        Data entry

*        Folding Newsletters, mailings, etc

*        Planting trees, weeding

*        Posting flyers around the community

*        Document formatting

 If interested in giving a hand or getting a group together to work on a project, please email us at info@gorgeecology.org.

AMERICORPS ~ NORTHWEST SERVICE ACADEMY
Since 1997, SECRETS has partnered with the Northwest Service Academy to sponsor 21 Individual Placement AmeriCorps members, providing nearly 45,000 hours of direct service to benefit gorge communities. AmeriCorps volunteers with the Institute are usually college graduates in their twenties, with degrees in biology, environmental studies, or education, and most express an interest to go into teaching after their year of service.

As with other non-profit organizations, there are many ways to get involved behind the scenes to support the work of the Institute. Writers compose and edit newsletter articles, artists donate their work to publications, and software engineers keep the computer network up and running. If you have a special skill or area of expertise, please contact us to find your niche in our community of volunteers.
