Outdoor School for Klickitat County Kids!

This school year there will be about 280 kids from Klickitat County participating in a two-night, three-day outdoor school thanks to a generous grant from the Washington State Parks Recreation and Conservation Office. The name of the grant program is No Child Left Inside and it will support our efforts to help facilitate the Pathfinder Adventures Outdoor School at Brooks Memorial State Park. For more information about the Pathfinder Adventures Outdoor School check out this news article that was featured on the front page of the Goldendale Sentinel!

Through this program we will be able to further our mission by creating a multitude of opportunities for kids to truly find their path, hence the name of the program, and discover their place within the earth. The first three sessions of the program will happen this September with Centerville, Wishram, Lyle, and Goldendale students while the fourth and final session will occur in May with Klickitat and Glenwood students. All of the kids are between 5th – 8th grade, which is a pivotal time in the lives of many.

We’re currently seeking donations to help us with expenses that CGEI will incur through the administration of this program. Although we have a significant amount of grant funds, most of those funds are designated for food, lodging, and equipment purchases. The grant is also a reimbursement grant so we have to spend the money in order to get the money. We’re hoping to raise $3,000 by the end of August (just four days!) to match the $3,000 that we will receive through contract services within the grant. Please consider your ability to make a contribution to this program. Donations can be made through our website here or by sending a check to CGEI, PO Box 1104, Hood River, OR, 97031 and be sure to write Pathfinder in the memo line.

Thank you for your consideration of supporting the kids in this program.
