RESOURCES FOR SCIENCE EDUCATION

In 1997, the SECRETS program partnered with the Underwood Conservation District of White Salmon, Washington to sponsor the first "Environmental Education Exchange", a workshop to bring agency staff together with educators to strengthen Environment Science education in the Columbia River Gorge. Since that time, we have continued to forge partnerships and build relationships to improve the state of science education in our region.

Resources continue to grow and improve, and we will do our best to relay new information for environmental science educators through this site. If you know of useful resources not included on this site, please let us know.

HIGHLIGHTED ORGANIZATIONS:

Interested in learning more about the unique ecosystems of Oregon and Washington? Try these excellent educational organizations:

Partnership for Arid Lands Stewardship (PALS)
PALS serves as the most comprehensive educational resource for the shrub-steppe ecosystem and a treasure-trove for educators! The Teacher Leadership Institutes, 10-day summer programs for K-12 teachers, review basic ecology and the function of ecosystems, particularly the shrub-steppe. The programs are run by staff from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

Wolftree, Inc.
Wolftree's Watershed Ecology Programs serves students, grades 5-12, with a wide variety of educational field trips and expeditions in the Pacific Northwest. Through a partnership with Portland State University (PSU), the Mt. Hood National Forest, and the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Wolftree helps coordinate an eight-week teacher training program, Teachers in the Woods, that also includes a field research component. Check them out!
